About

“Research shows art has the ability to heal and de-stress. What we hope to create with the artwork is an uplifting environment that fosters warmth, comfort and inspiration. The goal is to increase feelings of well-being while promoting healing.” – Joan Jacobs

The Joan K. Jacobs Healing Arts Collection within Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health was envisioned by Joan Jacobs to introduce art and healing throughout the facility. The collection comprises more than 150 individual works, which offer moments of discovery throughout the public areas of Jacobs Medical Center, including waiting rooms and corridors as well as patient areas. The collection features works by many internationally known artists, including some with long associations with UC San Diego as both students and faculty.

UC San Diego is deeply grateful to the Jacobs Family and committee members Iris Strauss and Kathryn Kanjo who have made this art collection available for our patients, visitors and employees.

Visiting the Collection - Online!

The most important role of the Joan K. Jacobs Healing Arts Collection is to help create an environment that is welcoming, calming and restorative for the patients and families who come to UC San Diego Health. As a result, most pieces are in areas that are not open to the public and all are housed in active clinical areas. We welcome you to explore the collection online.
